Fun, Laughter, and Lasting Memories... A Recap of the Unforgettable General Meeting
The general meeting held on May 30th was filled with joy and excitement as we near close to the end of this term. The session was led by Rtr. Saneru with the National Anthem, followed by the flag salutation, the Rotaract invocation, and the Rotaract Song. Secretary Rtr. Amashi proceeded to mention the meeting minutes of the last General Meeting and then President Rtr. Lavinka made some announcements and set the stage for an engaging meeting.
And with that, things started getting interesting in the meeting. Our fantastic Avenue Directors took the stage to showcase their projects this month.
Rtr. Rushdha, the Club Service director, mentioned the Club t-shirt project, highlighting the team's efforts in promoting club identity and unity. Rtr. Kivi, the Community Service Director, communicated about their project this month and then passed controls to the project chairs, Rtr. Thimira and Rtr. Wikum to explain this project in detail. The project was called "Hopeful Hearts," an initiative organized as the first phase of a series of projects. They mentioned how the club was able to make a meaningful contribution by organizing a blood donation drive and emphasized the importance of giving back to the community.
Moving on to International Service Avenue, Rtr. Radhiya updated us about the workshop, "EmpowerED," conducted by Rtr. Abdullah Jasmin. The workshop centered on the complete process of designing a Brandkit and a prototype, moving on to codifying the design created and how it could be deployed online. She mentioned how the project aimed to enhance the participants with practical design and coding skills and how it was conducted successfully.
The Professional Development Avenue had two projects this month. Rtr. Sathira presented us with the project "Elevate," a workshop series focused on leveraging LinkedIn for career advancement, mastering interview skills, and crafting impressive CVs, followed by Rtr. Inuka shared the success story of their project "GearX", where they donated Arduino Kits to the University in order to assist the 2nd year undergraduates in their Electronics & Physical Computing module. This initiative was indeed a positive impact on students' learning and technological advancement.
Then Rtr. Abdullah, one of the PR directors in the Rotaract District Steering Committee 23–24, remarked about the Rotaract District Assembly and requested all the members to take part in this event which marks the transition of the Rotaract leadership in Sri Lanka and Maldives. He then invited Rtr. Adeepa Bandara, the President-Elect, and Rtr. Dithmeena, one of the incoming Vice Presidents, to share their experiences on PETS and SETS (President-Elect and Secretary-Elect Training Seminar). They made it an engaging session by sharing their memories at PETS and SETS, and the room was filled with laughter, smiles, and camaraderie as they shared their experiences. They showed us what it means to be a part of the Rotaract family and invited us to take all the opportunities that come our way and to have fun in that process.
As we approach the end of our term and prepare for the transition, this final general meeting was a testament to our collective dedication and achievements. The impact of each project resonated deeply within our Rotaract community, bringing us closer to our mission of creating positive change. We can't wait to see what the future holds as we pass the torch to the incoming leaders.
