"Sound of Her Voice" Panel Discussion on Women's Rights
International Relations

The Rotaract club of University of Colombo School of Computing organized a panel discussion on “Women’s Rights” on the 11th of March 2023 via Zoom. This was a collaborative project done with the Rotary club of Colombo Down Town, Rotaract club of Simara Bara, Nepal and Interact Club of Mahanama College.

The panelists for the discussion were Miss.Chamithri Rambukwella who is the former second secretary to the Sri Lankan mission to the UN in New York and Bijay Kumar Sah who is the Joint secretary of Rotaract club of Simara Bara. The moderator was Rtr. Radiyah Hassan from the Rotaract club of University of Colombo School of Computing.

We shared posts under some of the hypothetical scenarios faced by women for the awareness of the panel discussion. We were really grateful for the 50+ participants for engaging so actively in the discussion. This was a great opportunity for all of us as we were able to share experience and discuss about women rights and how women are and should be treated. This was indeed a great opportunity for us as we were able to get to know the differences between how women are treated in Nepal and in our country, Sri Lanka.

During the discussion it was very clear that in Nepal there’s so much of freedom for Women and they are treated with much more better opportunities when it comes to gender equality. The speakers from both ends shared how to overcome these inequalities and the differences they have in both countries when it comes to women’s rights and gender equality.

At the end we were able to share thoughts beyond boundaries as of to the International Relations Avenue of the Rotaract club of University of Colombo School of Computing and we are proud to be a part of this great opportunity.
