The project was originally approved to construct five drill pads, but the Biden administration ultimately reduced it to three. After receiving approval from the Biden administration, the construction of the Willow project can start at any time. However, it is uncertain when the project will begin due to potential legal and weather challenges. Construction can only be done during the winter season, and it needs ice roads to build the rest of the oil project's infrastructure – including hundreds of miles of roads and pipelines and a processing facility. There is a rumor that the project may not begin until 2027.

Especially for the Arctic animals who are already in grave danger of going extinct. The window to act on climate is rapidly closing. Every new fossil fuel project makes it so much harder for humanity to do what is needed to avert truly catastrophic climate change like global warming, which could cause small islands like ours to be submerged in the sea. And with the Arctic already warming four times faster than the rest of the world, can we really afford to prioritize economic growth over the planet?
